A resident of southern China, known only as Mr. Li, has chosen to keep his 219 million yuan ($29.9 million) lottery windfall a secret from his family.

Expressing concerns that revealing the jackpot might lead to laziness, he quietly visited the lottery office in Nanning, Guangxi, to claim his prize, donning a distinctive yellow outfit that concealed his identity in photos capturing the moment.

Mr. Li explained to the Nanning Evening News that he withheld the information from his wife and child because he feared it could make them complacent and less motivated to work in the future.

Despite his discretion, he did disclose donating 5 million yuan to charity and remains undecided about how to manage the remainder of his winnings. The lottery, operated by China’s central government for the benefit of welfare and sports, involves selecting six numbers from red balls and one from a blue ball. Mr. Li revealed that the winning numbers were ones he had been playing for years: 2, 15, 19, 26, 27, 29, and 2.
